David McLaughlin

Serious Injury File Handler
Background

Having left college in 2003 I joined a small local firm as an office junior. I joined Minster Law (then Corries Solicitors) in 2005 as a legal assistant. I spent 2 years working as a legal assistant to a claims handler and the joined our internal trainee claim handler team. After 12 – 18 months I graduated this team into a full-time claims handler role. I have worked in our Fast Track and Multi-Track departments and have experience in handling complex personal injury, road traffic, employment liability and public liability claims. I began studying to become a member of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives in 2017. I have reached Associate status and hope to achieve Fellow status by 2023.

What are you most passionate about in your job?

The best feeling you can get in this job is to achieve the best result for the client. Often people think this means winning a case at trial, and this can sometimes provide the greatest satisfaction, but only where all attempts at strategic negotiations and mediation have failed. I take a proactive approach in preparing the best and strongest case possible before using my skills as a negotiator to get the results my clients want without the need for time-consuming and stressful litigation.

What are your personal interests outside of work?

With two young daughters I seldom have time to indulge in my own interests but when the opportunity presents I enjoy watching football and the occasional game of golf.
