How Minster Law support you

Suffering from a head or brain injury can suddenly and drastically impact the life of a victim and their family.

They can be sustained in a number of ways, including an acute blow to the head in a road traffic accident, during an accident in your workplace, or on the sports field.

The effects of a brain injury vary for each person, but there can be physical, emotional, cognitive, or behavioural impacts.

In serious cases, a head or brain injury can result in severe mental impairment, neurocognitive deficits or a coma, among other more difficult to diagnose disorders.

Having a brain injury can make it difficult to complete day-to-day tasks, but early access to quality rehabilitation can help.

We understand no amount of compensation can turn back the clock on such a traumatic injury, so alongside seeking compensation we work with leading medical experts to secure the best rehabilitation and treatment.

At Minster Law, we work closely with organisations such as Headway, the brain injury association, to ensure we are kept well informed on new treatments and developments in the world of head and brain injury and to help them provide all-important support to those who need it.

What are the main types of head injury?
  • Concussion: This is the most common and most minor of head injuries. A concussion may result in feelings of nausea, headaches or dizziness. It is important to monitor any deterioration in condition as it could mean there is a compression on the brain which can lead to serious complications.
  • Open: An open head injury is defined as a fracture or displacement of the skull. These types of injuries do not always impact the brain.
  • Closed: A closed head injury is one where the skull remains intact, despite undergoing impact or trauma.
What if my loved one doesn’t have the capacity to claim?

A person who has suffered from a brain injury may find themselves unable to manage their own claim, but a trusted friend or relative can do this on their behalf.

In doing so they will take on the role of ‘litigation friend’ and it will become their duty to carry out the role and responsibilities as if they were the claimant themselves and to act in their best interests.

Living with the lifelong impacts of a head and brain injury can be challenging, but if the injury wasn’t your fault, Minster Law may be able to help you receive compensation.

We will act promptly to ensure the circumstances surrounding the accident are investigated quickly, so the cause of the accident is identified and those responsible are held accountable.

We’re here to guide you and give you the right advice and help when you need it.
