The Bike Team at Minster Law: Q&A with Charlotte Taylor, Bike Team Leader

As one of the largest specialist bike teams in the UK, we proudly serve approximately a quarter of bike clients in the UK, handling cases with bike related injuries. From replacing helmet and leathers to bike assessment and recovery, our experienced team provide unparalleled support, guiding clients through every step of the post-accident process.

We are delighted to talk to our Bike Team leader, Charlotte Taylor.

Q1: Would you please introduce the Bike Team?

The bike team at Minster Law is made up of specialist handlers who deal with injury and financial loss claims for clients who are either riding a motorcycle or a pedal cycle and are involved in a road traffic accident. We help to guide the clients through the claims journey and provide support and legal advice to them. This can include providing rehabilitation to help them recover from their injuries as quickly as possible. This can involve helping to resolve liability to ensuring that the clients are able to recover the financial losses they have suffered as a result of the accident, such as lost earnings or damaged protective clothing.

Q2: Could you tell me a bit about your professional background and what you do?

I joined Minster Law as a Legal Assistant a few months after completing my Legal Practice Course at Law school. I have been at Minster for 15 years, and during this period I have progressed from a Legal Assistant, to a Fee Earner within our Fast Track and Litigated Teams. I also qualified as a Chartered Legal Executive whilst working as a Fee Earner at Minster Law. In 2018, I began my journey as a Team Leader within our Fast Track car teams and took over as Team Leader of the Bike Team in January 2024.

Q3: You have been leading the bike team at Minster Law since 2024. What is it like working in the bike team?

Working within the bike team is very enjoyable. I have enjoyed leading the team that supports some of the most vulnerable road users and seeing the great outcomes and differences that we can make to their claims journey. No one wants to be injured and have to make an injury claim, but I am so proud of the team in helping these clients during such a difficult and challenging period of their lives.

Q4: What is the difference in handling 4-wheel claims and bike claims?

There are several differences between dealing with the 4-wheel claims and bike claims. One of the biggest differences is the type and different injuries that a biker can and does sustain as a result of a road traffic accident. There are also a number of potential uninsured losses that need to be claimed, such as protective clothing, helmets and bike equipment, which is not seen as much in 4-wheel claims. There are also quite a few different liability scenarios and considerations that you do not see in car vs car road traffic accidents.

Q5: Would you please give a piece of advice to those who want to develop their career in bike specialism?

One piece of advice I would give to anyone looking to develop their career within a bike specialism is to carefully consider how driving a bike is different to driving a car and what impact this can have on the actions taken by a rider when considering liability for an accident.
