Sophie Crossley, paralegal at Minster Law, shares her experience returning to work as a working mum and the opportunities she’s got involved in since returning.
Returning to work after having a baby can be a challenging transition for many mums. Guilt, exhaustion, and many other emotions are at the forefront of your mind. It’s great therefore to be able to say that after recently returning from maternity leave after having my first child, I have nothing but praise for Minster Law and their handling of my return to work. They have truly supported me throughout my pregnancy and maternity leave, considering my emotions and taking them into account when conducting my transition back to work and I have received support in my tasks, guidance from leaders and praise from peers.
My day-to-day workload remains busy and challenging which is something I looked forward to. In fact, I asked to be as busy as possible to keep my mind from dwelling on things at home. My team leader has placed me into new challenges which I have thoroughly enjoyed, also meaning no two days are the same.
A day in my work life looks a little like this…
I regularly speak with clients; this can be providing updates, chasing documents but most of all providing general client care. Taking time to see how the client is feeling at a vulnerable time and how their injuries are improving or progressing can create a lovely working relationship and this aspect of the role is most fulfilling. Additionally, I am continually broadening my knowledge by corresponding with medical agencies, counsels, courts, and insurers which keeps me involved in all aspects of the claim and enhances my legal skills.
The ongoing support from my fee earner, manager and peers has helped me gain so much confidence in the role. The work ethic and morale within my team is inspiring and encourages me to work to the best of my ability.
I am looking forward to what my future holds at Minster Law.
