‘Minster Mudders’ conquer Tough Mudder Yorkshire for Headway

A team of five Minster Law employees bravely battled the mud, obstacles and gruelling challenge of Tough Mudder Yorkshire in Leeds yesterday to get through it as a team and raise vital funds for Headway York and Headway Nottingham.

The ‘Minster Mudders’ have almost reached their fundraising target of £1,000, which will be split equally between the two regional charities, who work in support of the national brain injury association. The team had hoped to be joined at the event by former RFU player and Headway ambassador, David Jackson, and his wife, but the pair were ruled out last week after the professional athlete sustained a shoulder injury.

Team member John Cuss, a graduate trainee solicitor at Minster Law, said: We are all a bit broken today – this was definitely the hardest challenge I have ever done! The artic enema, where you shoot down under water in to muddy, freezing water was awful. Then when you surface you have to dive back down to swim under tyres, which is terrible when you can’t see a thing through thick mud. There was a lot of crawling under barbed wire too!

The team knew that the conditions would be harsh in the fearsome 12-mile Tough Mudder obstacle course, but they also knew that the event was perfect for highlighting serious brain injuries. They had to create a reliable and caring support network and use each other’s individual strengths to pull through as a team.

Dealing with serious brain injury cases needs similar teamwork and co-operation in order to face challenges associated with treating the injury and supporting the client and their family and organisations like Headway are an important element.

York Headway is a voluntary organisation and Headway Nottingham is a registered charity, so donations are vital in ensuring that they can continue to carry out the work they do for anyone affected by brain injury in their respective regions.
