Toughest challenge ahead for the ‘Minster Mudders’

Minster Law team to take part in Tough Mudder Yorkshire in aid of Headway York

A five-strong team, known as the Minster Mudders, is taking part in one of the country’s most gruelling assault courses this August to increase awareness of brain injuries. Lawyers within Minster Law’s personal injury department, Sandy Gilfillan, Marc Massey, Stacey Barrow, Jack Young and John Cuss are heading to the demanding Tough Mudder Yorkshire event at Broughton Hall in Skipton on Sunday 2 August in aid of the brain injury association, Headway.

Tough Mudder is a team-oriented 12-mile obstacle course designed to test physical strength and mental grit. Putting camaraderie over finisher rankings, it is a real team challenge that allows participants to experience exhilarating, yet safe, world-class obstacles they won’t find anywhere else.

Minster Mudders Team Captain, Sandy Gilfillan, said: “We know that Tough Mudder will be a real challenge that will test us all in many ways, but we’ve been inspired to do it by the clients we see facing –and overcoming – challenges every day. Our main aim is to raise as much money as possible for Headway while also demonstrating the importance of having a strong team around you to provide the right support when you need it the most.”

Secretary of Headway York, Sarah Patten, said: “Although governed by Headway UK, the York branch is very small and relies almost entirely on monies raised through fundraising. We are incredibly grateful for the efforts of Minster Law and the Minster Mudders team – all money raised will go towards supporting those people in the local community who have been affected by head injury.”

Former Nottingham Rugby Union player David Jackson, who was forced to retire from professional rugby after suffering a head injury, was also keen to join the Minster Mudders team at Sunday’s event. However, the Headway Nottingham ambassador, who due to his own experience has a personal interest in concussion and head injuries, was forced to pull out of the event after sustaining a shoulder injury over the weekend.

Since its inception in 2010, Tough Mudder has helped to raise more than £5m for charities and the Minster Mudders hope to add to this by entering the fray this year. All monies raised from the event will be divided equally between Headway York and Headway Nottingham.
