Donation boosts world-class wheelchair basketball team

Legal team from Minster Law raise £1,790 in charity tournament for the Sheffield Steelers

Employees from local legal firm Minster Law, part of the BGL Group, have donated £1,790 to a world-class wheelchair basketball team. The Sheffield Steelers Wheelchair Basketball Team has produced World Champions and Paralympian athletes, but still needs financial support to maintain its specially adapted sports wheelchairs. The 20 Minster Law employees raised funds for the chairs in a slam-dunking charity basketball tournament against members of the Sheffield Steelers.

Team GB Paralympians from the Sheffield Steelers team, Colin Price, Kevin Hayes, Yvonne Waft and Joanne Harper, helped train the squad of Minster Law employees in the wheelchair sport especially for the event. The tournament was held at the Princess Royal Spinal Injuries Centre in Sheffield.

Lorraine Waring, Club Secretary of the Sheffield Steelers, commented: “We had a fantastic day introducing new players to the sport. The teams from Minster Law impressed us all with their wheelchair basketball skills and their great fundraising effort.”

“We have lifted the European League Cup and our players have represented Great Britain in the Paralympic Games, but as a charity we need public support. Thanks to Minster Law, we can continue maintaining our fleet of basketball wheelchairs and providing wheelchair basketball in Sheffield.”
