Background
I started my training contract at a high street practice, gaining experience in Defendant Personal Injury, Family Law to include Care proceedings, Litigation and some prosecution work on behalf of the DWP. I qualified in 2007 and have worked exclusively in Personal Injury (Defendant and Claimant) since then. I started at Minster Law in January 2018.
What are you most passionate about in your job?
As a Solicitor the best part of my job is when I settle a case and I know that the Client is happy with the result. There is nothing quite like getting a lovely email or card from a client telling you that they are happy and thanking you for the work that you have put into their case. I also enjoy taking part in the CSR activities that Minster Law are so passionate about and I am part of the CSR committee. I have formed a strong relationship with S.U.R.F who are a registered charity based out of the spinal unit at Pinderfields Hospital. I have helped arranged fundraising events to include a golf day, the ‘end to end challenge’ and raffles raising over £4,000 this financial year. We also hold talks for S.U.R.F members to help them with any legal issues and advise them on any new case law such as Swift v Carpenter. As well as supporting S.U.R.F the Serious injury Department are also helping a local school and arranging monthly inspirational speakers to attend the school. We are currently looking at ways to reward the children at the end of the school year to include supplying pizza for the best class attendance, vouchers for the outstanding pupil of the year and the most improved reader of the year. We are hoping this will be a longstanding relationship. Minster Law have also just committed to the TutorMate programme which is an online literacy programme for disadvantaged children. TutorMate allows employees to help struggling young readers in Year 1 and 2 for 30 minutes a week.
What are your personal interests outside of work?
I have 2 young children which take up most of my time outside of work. When I am not at Saturday morning football matches and gymnastics I love to read and go on long walks and see my friends.
