Minster Law colleagues, and members of our CSR and social committees, Marc Massey and Thomas Giles have been practising ahead of their big charity fundraiser for the Movember foundation. Marc, an ambassador for the charity has worked with them for five years following his own battle with cancer.
In preparation for completing the Ironman this July, they took part in the Lincoln Triathlon on the 29th April. The triathlon consisted of a 400m swim, 25km cycle and 5km run.
Minster is sponsoring both Marc and Tom’s fundraising efforts with wetsuits, trisuits and cycle jerseys for the Ironman and the run up events. The Lincoln triathlon gave them both the opportunity to try out the trisuits.
Speaking about the Lincoln triathlon, Marc said: “It was a fantastic event that was well organised. It gave me and Tom the opportunity to test out our new gear, as well as getting a feel for the transitions between swim, bike and run ahead of Hamburg. It’s amazing that Minster has backed us with our kit, and will help us raise more money for Movember”.
Thomas Giles said: “It was our first triathlon event and time to finally put the training into practice. We completed the swim in a good time and was able to get a sense of our first transition from swim to bike. It was cold, very cold, and gave me the motivation to cycle hard in order to warm up. The bike route was scenic and relatively flat and gave us the chance to test out just how comfy our new gear was! We transitioned into the run, where I managed to get a good pace going and push hard for the finish line. Without the support of Minster, I wouldn’t have had the gear to succeed in this Triathlon or for on the big day in Hamburg. We’ll continue to train hard and compete in order to raise money, especially now Marc is beginning to get used to seeing the back of me in races”.
The next event will be the Wetherby triathlon on 27th May. To find out more about their journey head to their blog or to visit their Just Giving page to donate.
