From Paralegal to Assisting Fee Earner: A Personal Journey in Serious Injury Law

Sharanvir Cubra

Embarking on a career in the legal field is often a journey filled with challenges, growth opportunities, and moments of profound transformation. For me, the transition from a paralegal role to becoming an assisting fee earner in serious injury has been a defining chapter in my professional trajectory.

As a paralegal, my role was primarily focused on providing essential support to our legal team, assisting with research, document preparation, and administrative tasks. While I found fulfilment in contributing to the legal process, I wanted a deeper level of engagement with clients and a more hands-on approach involving this.

The transition to an assisting fee earner role represented a significant milestone in my career journey. It marked not only a change in title but a shift in responsibilities, requiring me to take on a more active role in client interaction and case strategy development.

One of the most rewarding aspects of this transition has been the opportunity to work directly with clients who have suffered serious injuries. Building rapport, providing empathetic support, and guiding them through the legal process has been both humbling and immensely gratifying. Being able to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those affected by serious injuries has reaffirmed my passion for the work we do.

Additionally, transitioning into an assisting fee earner role has allowed me to deepen my understanding of serious injury law and sharpened my legal skills. From conducting in-depth legal research and liaising with other professionals, every aspect of my new role has presented learning opportunities that have assisted my professional growth.

Of course, this journey has not been without its challenges. Adapting to the increased level of responsibility, balancing multiple cases, and navigating the complexities of serious injury law have required dedication, perseverance, and a willingness to embrace new challenges. However, with the support of my colleagues, I have been able to overcome obstacles and continue to thrive in my new role.

At Minster Law, I’ve experienced support and encouragement in advancing my career.
