As Pride month has come to an end, I wanted to reflect on the significance of Pride month especially given that so much has changed in the workplace over the last few years. I feel very lucky that Minster Law is a big believer in creating a supportive working environment where everyone feels respected and able to express themselves. The importance of diversity, equality and inclusion is well communicated, and we are encouraged to share our feedback. It is no surprise to me that the firm won a diversity and inclusion award earlier this year at the British Claims Awards.
June is recognised as LGBTQ+ Pride month to remember a tipping point in queer history – the Stonewall Uprising of June 1969. Stonewall lasted six days in Manhattan and was a series of protests by members of the gay community in response to a police raid that began in the early hours of June 28th 1969, at the Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village, New York.
This event gave Pride its meaning – to feel proud, having the freedom to express yourself and fighting discrimination.
The rainbow flag, also known as the gay pride flag, is a symbol of LGBTQ+ pride and social movements. The colours reflect the diversity of the community and the spectrum of human sexuality and gender.
PRIDE IS FOR EVERYONE NOT JUST THE LGBTQ+ COMMUNITY. BECOME AN ALLY. ATTEND A PRIDE EVENT THIS YEAR NEAR YOU.
