Fundraising team set their sights on £2,500 target for St Leonard’s Hospice
A team of six employees at Minster Law’s York office are taking part in a unique fundraising challenge for a local charity. Stephanie Jackson, Emily Mayes, Clare Smeaton, Patrick Musgrave, Marc Massey and Joni Southall have taken on St Leonard’s Hospice’s Accumulator Challenge for February, and are already well on their way to achieving their £2,500 target.
The Accumulator Challenge is an innovative way to raise vital funds for St Leonard’s Hospice, which provides specialist palliative care and support for local people with life limiting illnesses. Fundraising teams in the York region were provided with a loan of £30 at the start of February, and the challenge is now on for them to auction, fundraise, invest, run and organise their way to the biggest ‘profit’ in 30 days.
Since the start of the challenge on 1 February, the Minster Law team has already staged a number of fundraising activities, sales and raffles in order to keep the initial investment growing. From breakfast bap and bake sales to a Valentine’s Day raffle, more than £730 has been raised so far by Minster Law colleagues, friends and family. More exciting fundraising activities are planned over the next two weeks, including a silent auction and the sale of tickets to an exclusive event at the York Dungeon.
Speaking on behalf of Minster Law’s team, Joni Southall explains: “Supporting our local community is important to everyone at Minster Law and we wanted to take part in the Accumulator Challenge as it is fun way to raise money for St Leonard’s Hospice, which is a charity that is particularly close to many of our hearts.
“The support from other local businesses has also been fantastic – we’ve been able to offer some great prizes for the raffles and local bakery, Fred’s Home Bakery, even donated the bread rolls for our bacon butty sale!
“The hospice receives some government funding but most of the running costs are raised through fundraising – they rely heavily on the generosity of the public to help raise the £4.85 million it costs to run each year. We’re looking forward to raising as much money as we can for the hospice through the Accumulator Challenge, so that it can continue helping as many people in the community as possible.”
